David O'Brien

Vocals and Keyboard

David graduated as a vocalist from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1993. Since that time he has worked as a teacher and performer of jazz and contemporary music. As a session singer, David has worked with Deborah Conway, David Wilson, John Foreman, James Freud, Colleen Hewitt, Patrick McMahon, Natalie Miller, Greg Hind, David Williamson, Annette Roche and many others. David’s teaching experience includes studio tuition at Camberwell Girl’s Grammar School, Ivanhoe Grammar, The Victorian College of the Arts, and The Geelong College.

David was a regular performer on Channel Ten's GOOD MORNING AUSTRALIA; and has performed on Channel Nine’s ‘HEY HEY IT’S SATURDAY’ and ‘THE FOOTY SHOW’.

As a member of the acclaimed A cappella trio SOCK, David has performed on ABC radio, and at Queensland's Woodford Folk Festival, the Port Fairy Festival, the Fairbridge Festival in WA, and both the Melbourne and Sydney A cappella festivals. David has conducted voice workshops both individually and as a member of the SOCK trio.

David was a songwriter, vocalist and keyboard player in the Melbourne band BURST. Burst released two EP’s, and the band’s video for the single ‘Got No Money’ released February in 1999, received airplay on the ABC’s ‘Rage’ program.

David’s stage credits include 'ALWAYS PATSY CLINE', ‘GREASE’, ‘MY FAIR LADY, HMS PINAFORE, and A DAY IN HOLLYWOOD. David has received a Lyrebird Award for his performance in ‘HMS PINAFORE’ and a Guild Award nomination for best lead actor in a musical for his performance as Groucho Marx in ‘A DAY IN HOLLYWOOD’.

"I perform good songs that nobody has heard for a while, predominantly from the seventies and eighties steering clear of ‘overdone’ songs, and occasionally, (hopefully) giving someone in the audience a really enjoyable flashback by playing something they haven’t heard in ages."
